Approximately 65% of Americans use Instagram daily, spending about half an hour per day on the platform, so Instagram is WHERE. IT’S. AT.
Instagram is such an integral part of a wedding creative’s overall marketing strategy, and we’re here with a few tips on how to utilize Instagram for your success!
1) Think of Instagram as your portfolio
Some would argue that your Instagram feed is becoming just as important (if not more!) as your actual website. With the flow of traffic that scrolls through Instagram every day, what is on your Instagram feed is how potential clients judge the quality of your work and if what you are offering is what they are looking for. Because of this, your Instagram needs to reflect your very best work and the work you want to make.
This means different things for different types of creative. For photographers, if you want to be known as a wedding photographer, maybe leave your real estate photography off of your Instagram feed. If you’re a baker who wants to be known for large, elegant white cakes, leave the cakes with disney characters or the moody black cake off of your feed. Show the very best of what you want to do!
2) Showcase your personality to attract your ideal client
Instagram gives us the opportunity to show who we are, what we love, what potential clients can expect from us, and what working with us will be like. It’s reality that you won’t be everyone’s cup of tea – and you don’t want to be! You want your ideal client to find you on Instagram, get to know you, and to learn that they just can’t live without having you as a part of their wedding day!
Using Instagram to showcase your personality through personal posts and stories gives potential clients the opportunity to know you and fall in love with you. Don’t be afraid of showing the “face behind the feed.”
3) Strive for Consistency
A consistent “feed” is pleasing to the eye and makes your feed interesting. What your images look like as a whole sets the first impression. This doesn’t mean that your images have to be taken by the same photographer or to contain the same color schemes! For some creatives, this is impossible!
However, we want to be consistent in both timing and quality! If you’re committing to using Instagram as a marketing strategy, you can’t consistently post or story for a week, and then drop off the face of the planet! Likewise, do everything you can to make your posts high quality! If you’re not a photographer, that’s okay! Your phone can take high-quality images.
Apps like Planoly or Later can help you plan your posts in advance to use your time wisely, and mobile presets like The Forever Preset can help give your cell phone photos a consistent, professional look.
4) Engage, engage, engage!
We all know that the Instagram algorithm is elusive and ever-changing, but the one thing that remains the same is that Instagram loves engagement. Are you replying to comments left on your post? Are you commenting on other vendors’ posts? Are you using stories as a conversation starter?
Engage with your followers by posting questions in your captions and in your stories. Even if no one is answering, you’re establishing yourself as a safe place for conversation. You’re proving to your followers that you’re more than just a sales pitch! Let them get to know you and engage with you. This will boost your standings in Instagram’s algorithm – putting more eyes on your profile and on your work. Not to mention, you’ll be leaving a lasting impression with potential clients through your interactions!
